Activities - Founder's Week Lectures

The Academy's Founder's Week, which take place in November, are in the form of a presidential address delivered by the President of the Academy, a series of symposia involving fellows and non-fellows, and the anniversary lecture, which is the climax of the celebrations.

A Fellow normally delivers the anniversary lecture, renamed Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Lecture.

These lectures address a wide range of issues on humanities and sciences. In 2005, the anniversary address dwelt on, 'Stability to Growth: Challenges of National Development.' The Presidential Address in 2005, dealt with the topic, 'Transnational Corporations, Foreign Direct Investment and Development.'

The three days between the Presidential address and the anniversary lecture are devoted to symposia on topical issues. In 2005, the sub themes were; 'The Economy', 'Education' and 'Science and Technology'.

In 2003 a foundation member of the Academy, Professor Alexander Kwapong, who was then Chairman of the Council of State, delivered the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Lecture on the Academy's foundations, and its role in national development. Another foundation member, Emeritus Prof. J.H. Kwabena Nketia gave the 2004 Kwame Nkrumah Memorial lecture on 'Kwame Nkrumah and the Arts'. In 2005 Dr. Letitia E. Obeng, a distinguished Fellow of the Academy gave the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial lecture on 'Kwame Nkrumah and the Sciences'.
