For two-and-half decades, the Academy has been involved in a project called, 'Fontes Historiae Africanae' (FHA), which is run by a committee that has both fellows and non-Academy members, some of them from the Department of History and the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana and the Ghana National Museum.
The main aim of the FHA project is to undertake or sponsor the publication of books or papers on sources of African history from published materials and the documentation of oral history. 'Sources of African History' is one of the projects of the International Academic Union to which the academy has been affiliated since 1976. It is also important to note a very important publication out of the Fontes Historiae Africanae project: 'The Dutch and the Guinea Coast 1742-1764' authored by a late fellow of the Academy, Professor Albert van Dan Dzig.
FHA hosted an international conference in Accra in January 2002.
